Medical Equipment Every Home Should Have
There are two pieces of medical equipment that I recommend for the home, other than a thermometer, which is a Blood Pressure Monitor and Pulse Oximeter.
Before I get into this, there is something else that every home needs. There are cuts, burns, sickness, germs in the home. Sure they are family, etc, but you need to protect yourself and your family from the spreading of bacteria and germs. You can do this by using gloves. These gloves are power free and Latex free. Remember flu season is about to start. Clean your door knobs, faucets, faucet handles with gloves. For some, cleaning the kitty litter box can be dangerous, gloves will help stop those nasty germs from getting onto your hands. |
My Story
I was fortunate to have a blood pressure monitor a couple of years ago when I was not feeling well at all. I didn't have any numbness, pain, etc, but did not feel right. I took my blood pressure and called for a doctor’s appointment the next day, while I continued to monitor my blood pressure throughout the day and night when I woke up. My blood pressure was a stroke level, at the age of 60. However, I thought it was stress due to two deaths of loved ones and other family issues during that time.
I did have a previous history, and with my dad's medical problems, I am happy to have my medical equipment in the home.
For years I was passing out for no reason. I was treated for seizures with medication and then was told a year later that doctors were not even sure if it was seizures. Nobody ever checked my oxygen level, or heart rate while I was at home, or even suggested the idea of getting these two items.
My Dad
My dad, had serious heart problems and cancer. He begun passing out for no reason, after coughing, just like I did. We measured his blood pressue and oxygen level at home. He needed oxygen periodically until it got close to the end.

Disclamer
I am not a doctor, a nurse, a pharmacist. All I can do is share my experiences with you. Your medical decisions, questions should be handled between you and your physician.

Pulse Oximeters
The pulse oximeter is invaluable for measuring oxygen levels at home.
The pulse oximeters are wonderful, but the one issue they have is when fingers, or toes are cold, they don't want to measure correctly if at all. Yes, I said toes. Sometimes if the finger is too cold, you can clip them onto a toe and get a reading.
. A few nights before my dad passed, we could not get his oxygen levels at all, due to his extremely poor circulation. He only had about 20 percent of heart function at this point.
